Laugh with me as I try new crafting and decorating skills, pricking a few fingers (and my pride) along the way.

Brick by Lego Brick

It's been a busy week. First it was my birthday, then it was Mothers birthday, then it was Mother and Fathers Anniversary, then I went to the coolest place on Earth (according to my boy)... Legoland!
My son is obsessed with Lego, especially the Star Wars range. He can make the most amazing models I've ever seen a child make. He's only just turned five, yet will turn his hand to the models designed for teenage Lego fans. Many would say this is obviously down to the fact he is Autistic (possible Aspergers, diagnosis takes forever), however I just say he's very clever (typical mummy!). When we decorate his new bedroom in the new house he will be having a Lego theme. I can be pretty handy with a paintbrush so I plan to paint a giant Lego mural on his walls. He's gonna love it!

Just look at this Lego London! Made by the professional Lego makers, not my son, ahah.
It's amazing the amount of detail that goes into the models.

I especially love the little Lego people going about their business.

We stayed at the Lego hotel for one night (the other night was at a Travelodge, that Lego hotel certainly aint cheap!). As pricey as it is I think it's definately worth it. It's like every child's fantasy come true. The rooms are amazing, ours was pirate themed. I don't know who was more excited as we got into the hotel; me, the husband or the boy (actually, I think it was the husband).

Have you ever seen such an amazing hotel front! Complete with fire breathing dragon. If the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang had a hotel...

So as we've been busy living actual lives this week we haven't had much time to dedicate to the new house. Although we did come home to half a wall that wasn't there before (yay!). Also our new bricks were delivered (of the non Lego variety). We went for a terracotta-ish type thing, called Bristol Buff. I say we, obviously I mean me, the husband proved to me a long time ago he has no taste and not even a wink of artistic eye. I will post photos of said bricks soon as I would love your opinions. You may think I'm making a big deal about a bit of brickwork, but I've got to look at the things for the rest of my life! If I have chosen wrong it's gonna bug me every day...forever...

Thanks for reading!

It's Hammer Time!

Sound the trumpets, the demolition has begun. As I sit in Mothers garden room typing away, I can hear the sound of drills and sledge hammers drifting up from our new house. Yes, conveniently enough our new house is directly behind Mothers house, there's even a little gate at the bottom of the garden joining them. This was installed when Great Nanny lived in that house and I'm glad it hasn't been taken away, handy handy. Luckily we have wonderful neighbours who don't seem to take offence at being woken at 8am on a weekend.

This is now what the back of our house looks like.
Lovely stuff. Concrete walls have been torn down to make way for lovely new bricks. The giant shed on the left of the picture will be gone soon, as who on Earth wants that view through their french doors?
You may also notice quite a bit of rubbish in the garden. Seriously, that's nothing! When we first saw the house I almost cried. I remember it as my Great Nanny's house and hadn't been inside for years, when I saw it again I was shocked at the condition of the place. Cigarette butts all over the carpets, half the wallpaper hanging down, a very strong smell of nicotine and dogs, doors hanging from their hinges. How anyone can live like it beats me, but happily now it's ours, back in the family again, and I am determined to make it a wonderful home again.

Garden shots!
Decking area. Obviously needs quite a tidy, however the actual decking is still in pretty good condition and will be staying.

This will eventually become my vegetable patch. Underneath all of the dead trees and brambles is the perfect sunny spot for a bit of growing.

So I'm off now to make a cup of tea for the man who is in a six foot hole moving our sewage pipe (a friend of the Husband who regrets asking if we needed any help). But before I go I'm going to leave you with a picture of my first ever knitting project.

A little pink blanket for the upcoming Babby. Don't laugh when I tell you this has taken me three evenings so far, it may be ready by her third birthday.

Finally. Photos!

Yay! I have finally figured out how to get photos onto this thing, it was a drawn out process involving web albums and other stuff I just kept clicking 'yes' to. So anyway, here is an example of the work we have cut out for ourselves by buying this house. Apparently this is a kitchen...

How's that for a blank canvas!
I'm already having visions of duck egg cabinets and natural slate floors. I will be posting more photos as we go.

Exciting Times!

So I've decided what to do while on maternity leave. I'm going to try every single craft I can get my hands on and see what fits me. A lovely new sewing machine is winging it's way towards me as I type, luckily I have Mother on hand to show me what's what and what goes where. Mother used to make pretty little summer dresses for me and my sister when we were little, she's also a pro at whipping up some curtains in a second! A good mentor for me. She's also going to refresh my memory on how to knit, a skill I haven't practiced since my Great Nanny died when I was 10. Looking forward to making some kind of shapeless blanket for the Babby as a first attempt. A lovely friend has agreed to teach me sock monkeys, and I've also gone a bit nuts buying various sewing and craft books. I honestly cannot wait until the 16th June, the start of my maternity leave, and the start of trying all kinds of new skills. Photos will follow each attempt, comedy value I'm sure.

In other news, building starts next week on our new house, yay! I guess I'd better warn the kettle he's in for a busy few weeks. I'm going to be taking plenty of photos to share....as soon as I figure out how to upload them!

Exciting times!

Hello Blogging!

I'm new to this whole blogging malarkey, so I'm just going to write a bit about myself to start with. I'm a youngish mum who lives in Cornwall. I have a husband, son of five (possibly Autistic, the jury is still out on that one) and am currently pregnant with what I am told is most likely a girl. I am in the middle of buying a preloved (ramshackle) house to renovate and redecorate, although this sale has been going on for eighteen months now (Don't Ask!) so I'm still waiting patiently for this to come to fruition. I thought starting a blog would be a nice way to record my ideas for the redecoration, and share inspirations. Looking forward to my blogging future...
